Welcome to the City Tilde

Tilde is the capital city of Hyetal, the second largest city in Hyetal and the fourth-most populous in the Realm of the First Giant. The City of Tilde includes urban Tilde and the surrounding 30-square-mile rural area. Located in southeastern Hyetal, Tilde lies on the east coast along the Firth of Frost, near the North Sea. Owing to its spectacular, rugged setting and vast collection of ancient and contemporary architecture, including numerous stone tenements, it is generally considered one of the most beautiful cities in Norlyn. Tilde is also the seat of the Hyetalian Council. The city is one of the major centres of the Enlightenment which is largely being led by the University of Tilde.

Hytetal's human monarchs have always attempted to be fair to their people even when they have not been wealthy enough to provide much for them. And that has been most of the time. But generations of rulers who shepherded and worked along side them has fostered loyalty and admiration among the (human) population of Hytetal. However, a generation or so back, an elven princess who was never supposed to see an heir of her own on the throne of the elven realm, Isle Voryl, married the Hytetal monarch. Their son was the first Half-Elf monarch in Norlyn; King of Hytetal, Kendrick, the Half-Elf Monarch. Kendrick was discerning enough politically to know that he ought steer well clear of his cousin, Lisilsa, Queen of Isle Voryl. She, with all the pretenses normally seen in Eladrin nobility, wanted nothing to do with him, viewing him instead as a half-breed and his line and marriage as a pollution of her own royal family.

Kendrick's queen, Ilimsta, was an Elf, and so their heir, Chanosia was only one-quarter human, and often passed for a full-blooded Elf. She was hurt by her cousin Lisilsa's constant rejection, and upon coming to her own throne attempted to find common ground with the Queen of Isle Voryl. Spurned at each turn and with an heir of her own where Lisilsa had none, Chanosia travelled to Louering, the capital of Isle Voryl, to offer an alliance; upon Lisilsa's death in order to keep a member of the family on the throne Chanosia's child would take the throne. The people seeing that Chanosia was nearly an Elf herself, and wishing neither anarchy nor war, were in favour of the proposal. Rather than "cede" any of her power however, Lisilsa instead declared war and has plans to murder Chanosia and her heir, Ealan. Chanosia married a human and so Ealan is of human heritage on his father's side, and an eighth human, and seven eighths elven by his mother, making him the Second Half-Elf Monarch. The people have rallied round him, but his aunt Queen Lisilsa hunts him regardless.

A Letter

...then again maybe it's a riddle. Or a job offer.
